But the low humidity that occurs in winter with the lower temperatures is of equal concern. The lack of moisture in the winter air is what makes it feel crisp and clean, but also dry.

Extreme changes in humidity can create a variety of problems from personal health and comfort to property damage.

However, the weather outside does come into play so colder temperatures do dictate humidity levels on the lower end. For example, if the outside temperature is 10°, then the recommended indoor humidity level is 30%. If the outside temperature is 20°, then the indoor home humidity level is 35%, etc.

  • Place shallow containers of water near heat sources and air dry towels or clothes to help add moisture to the air

  • Your oven dries out your air so cook on the stove-top instead
